away we go

All right, it’s time to start the ride now, so please take your seats. I advise you to keep your arms and legs inside the car at all times. If you have a pacemaker, a heart condition, weak stomachs or strict morals, I suggest you people just back away now. I hope those who remain enjoy the ride.

Ok, let’s see how this goes shall we.

About 5 months ago, I applied for a role in a movie called “the temperature’s rising”. I actually applied for 3 characters...1 was a mafia mobster, another was a detective and the other was a hit man, which was all I knew about the characters at the time. So I emailed the production company with my comp card (acting resume) and just left things be. 2 months later I received an email from my agent asking me to attend an audition a few days later. So I didn’t have much time to study a dialog piece for me to act out. So I just went there and did a piece from a movie called “boiler room” which I had used before for other auditions. If you have never been to an audition, let me just give you a run down on how they work. You sit outside a room until they call your name, then you go in, hand them your comp card, now depending on who, what, when and where, you will be asked to go stand in the centre of the room, directly in front of a camera with lots of people standing and sitting behind the camera, watching a screen as you do your thing. Nerves are a fucker to deal with at the best of times, but acting out a scene in front of people you don’t know is krazzy shit. You may be asked a few short questions, and then asked what dialog you will be doing but that’s about all the talking and communication that is done. Once you do your part, you say thank you and just leave. No one speaks, nothing, fucking silence and that alone fucks with your heads. Then you are contacted by your agent with a yes or no. So, there I was, sitting outside this room, shitting my pants, trying not to look nervous but failing miserably, when my name was called. Holy fuck, here I go. Once I walked in, everyone was just talking amongst themselves, so I walked up to where they were, handed them my comp card. They asked what part I was auditioning for, and honestly, I had no fucking idea, so off the top of my head I said the detective. Nobody seemed to give a shit or take any interest in what I was doing, so I did my part and left. About a week later I got a call from my agent and was told they wanted me to come back again for another audition and a chat. Wooohoooo....that’s a good sign....right? I hope so. This time it was in the production office of the Fremantle media group. They said they liked what they saw, but wanted me to audition for the role of the hit man “Kody Scott”. Then they asked me to do a cold read, which is when they hand you a script with the character and scene they want you to act out, and without any practice. FFFUUUCCCKKK...that is scary. They gave me only five minutes to read what they wanted me to do. So I did what I could, in the short time I was given. Again, nothing was said and I just left. 2 days later I got a call from my agent, telling me I got the part....holy fuck....yeah babyJ. It’s rather a strange process that you go through after all this, lots and lots of phone calls back and forth between my agent and the production team. Meetings were set up in coffee shops, at lunches, dinners, even drinking sessions at strip clubs, just to discuss what they would like the character to be, what they wanted me to do to prepare for the role.
Coming up in the next blog..............The adventure continues.......what I have done to prepare for the role as Kody Scott. Boot Camp Training, Boxing and Swimming. STAY TUNED.
